The German government has publicly expressed “concern” over recent Israeli airstrikes in Gaza that killed at least 37 Palestinians over the weekend, including children and women, according to Germany’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Martin Giese. Berlin stressed that these developments show the fragile state of the ceasefire and urged all parties to respect commitments under a 20‑point plan meant to stabilize the situation.
“We note these incidents with concern time and again. They show that the situation in Gaza remains fragile, not least because of Saturday’s attack.”

Berlin’s rhetoric sharply contrasts with its military ties to Israel. Germany has been one of Israel’s major arms and military equipment suppliers, accounting for roughly 30 % of Israel’s arms imports in the years leading up to and during the ongoing conflict — including substantial exports of ammunition, vehicles, and defence components.
Although Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced a temporary halt on weapons exports that could be used in Gaza in 2025, that pause was partial and later reversed following the ceasefire, with restrictions lifted while other defence exports and trade ties persist.
Israeli attacks on Gaza persist in blatant violation of the agreed ceasefire
Israeli air and ground attacks on Gaza continue despite an internationally mediated ‘ceasefire’ that has been in place since October 2023. Independent reporting indicates recent strikes have killed entire families and security personnel, in what have been described as some of the heaviest attacks since the truce began. Ceasefire violations and civilian casualties continue to mount.
Since the ceasefire took effect in early October, Israeli actions have killed 524 Palestinians and wounded 1,360 others, committing 1,450 violations, according to the Gaza government media office on Saturday.
