On October 4, 2025, Israel’s military announced a halt to its offensive in Gaza City, claiming preparations for the first phase of former U.S. President Donald Trump’s peace plan. However, this so-called “pause” is a deceptive tactic rather than a genuine step toward peace.
Airstrikes continue, civilians die, and destruction rages on, all while Israel claims to be reducing operations to “the minimum.” This so-called pause is nothing more than a façade designed to appease international pressure while maintaining the siege.
The humanitarian toll is catastrophic. Over 67,000 Palestinians have been killed, nearly 170,000 injured, and hundreds of thousands displaced since October 2023, according to UN reports. Hospitals are overwhelmed, essential supplies are blocked, and entire neighborhoods lie in ruins. International organizations have condemned Israel’s actions as blatant violations of human rights and international law.
The hostage crisis underscores the duplicity. Hamas has agreed to release hostages contingent on Israel’s compliance with a ceasefire, yet Israel continues its strikes, deliberately undermining negotiations. As Haaretz reported, Trump may have strongarmed Netanyahu into a Gaza deal, but Israel was left “enough ammo to shoot it down”—and shoot it down it has, prolonging suffering and obstructing any chance of peace.
International outrage grows, but Israel remains defiant. Protests erupt across Europe, UN officials demand immediate humanitarian access, yet Israel justifies continued bombardment as “security operations” against Hamas. This justification thinly veils a strategy of maximum pressure and control, with civilians bearing the brunt.
Israel’s so-called halt is a betrayal. It is a manipulation of global opinion, a prolongation of war, and a refusal to genuinely pursue peace. Until Israel stops pretending and fully halts its operations, Gaza’s suffering will continue, and the cycle of violence will only deepen.
