After a two-year halt caused by the Israeli army’s destruction of their headquarters and equipment, several local radio stations in Gaza have resumed limited broadcasting in recent days. According to an Al Jazeera Arabic report, the stations are attempting to reestablish contact with their audiences despite ongoing constraints.
Gaza residents are once again tuning in to morning programs on stations such as Voice of Jerusalem and Zaman Radio, which focus on the daily challenges and concerns of people living in the enclave.
Broadcasting online from a damaged building in Gaza City’s center—now serving as a shelter for displaced families—Voice of Jerusalem is working to revive the local radio landscape, according to the report.
Helping People to Cope
Imad Nour, one of the station’s presenters, said the return to broadcasting sends a message of “defiance and hope amid the rubble, affirming that life continues despite the harsh realities left by the war.”
Nour explained that resuming broadcasts aims to reconnect with people’s needs and help them cope with the devastating consequences of the war, including widespread destruction and displacement. He added that Palestinians had long relied on local radio—particularly during Israeli escalations—before access to these stations was cut off during the military assault.
